3 Day Tanzania safari
Visit: Tarangire and Ngorongoro
ViewWhen to trek Kilimanjaro from Arusha: dry months, rain risk, crowds and how a climb fits around a northern-circuit safari.
This page is general information from Sejova Safaris in Arusha. It is not medical, legal or insurance advice. Confirm visas, vaccinations, weather and evacuation cover with official sources, your doctor and your insurer before you travel.
You can climb Kilimanjaro in most months, but success and comfort change with the rains. The mountain makes its own weather. Cloud can sit on the forest even when Arusha is dry. Still, two windows are clearly better for most first-time trekkers.
January to early March is often warm on the lower slopes, with a good chance of clearer summit views. Short showers can still arrive. June to October is the main dry season on the northern safari circuit and a classic time to climb. Nights are colder, especially in July and August, and popular routes are busier.
April and May bring the long rains. Trails are muddier, views are more often closed in, and some camps feel quieter because fewer groups travel. November and early December bring the short rains: showers are usually briefer than the long rains, but packing must still assume wet forest days.
Many Arem travellers trek first, then recover with a Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari, or reverse the order. If the wildebeest migration is your priority, lock park dates first and place Kilimanjaro in a dry window beside them. If the summit is the priority, choose a longer route (Lemosho or a 7–8 day Machame / Rongai plan) rather than squeezing five days between international flights.
Marangu is the only standard route with hut beds; it can feel busier in peak months. Machame, Lemosho and Rongai camp in tents and generally give more acclimatisation time when you add a day. Umbwe is steeper and better for experienced trekkers. We match route and month to your fitness and the rest of the Tanzania itinerary — see Tanzania climbing adventures.
