Tanzania Visa

How visitors commonly enter Tanzania: eVisa, passport validity, yellow fever rules and arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport.

This page is general information from Sejova Safaris in Arusha. It is not medical, legal or insurance advice. Confirm visas, vaccinations, weather and evacuation cover with official sources, your doctor and your insurer before you travel.

Almost all visitors who are not East African Community citizens need a visa for Tanzania. Sejova Safaris does not issue visas. You apply yourself, in good time, through official immigration channels.

eVisa

The usual method is an online ordinary visitor visa before you fly. Start at the Tanzania Immigration Department site (immigration.go.tz / the official eVisa portal). Upload a passport scan and a photo, pay the published fee, and wait for the approval PDF. Processing is often several working days and can take longer in busy months, so apply weeks ahead rather than at the airport queue if you can.

Passport

Your passport should be valid for at least six months after you enter, with blank pages for stamps. Names must match the air ticket. If you are travelling as a family, each child needs their own document and, in most cases, their own visa.

Arrival at Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam

Keep the approval letter or eVisa reference printed and on your phone. Immigration may still ask standard questions about lodges and return flights. Our driver waits in the arrivals hall after you clear the desk — not airside.

Yellow fever

A yellow-fever vaccination certificate is commonly requested if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission, including some connections through other African airports. Rules change. Check your own health authority and Tanzania Immigration, not a forum post. See Tanzania yellow fever requirements and health and safety in Tanzania.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is part of the United Republic of Tanzania. A mainland visa covers the island on the same trip. You still pass local arrival formalities when you fly Kilimanjaro–Zanzibar or Dar–Zanzibar. Some nationalities complete extra online pre-registration when Zanzibar authorities require it; we send the current link with your flight plan.
