Tanzania Yellow Fever Requirements

When a yellow fever certificate is typically asked for on arrival in Tanzania, and how that fits a safari or Kilimanjaro trip.

This page is general information from Sejova Safaris in Arusha. It is not medical, legal or insurance advice. Confirm visas, vaccinations, weather and evacuation cover with official sources, your doctor and your insurer before you travel.

Yellow fever rules depend on where you have been, not only on the fact that you are landing in Tanzania. Sejova Safaris cannot stamp or waive certificates. Your travel clinic and Tanzania Immigration decide what you must carry.

Typical pattern

Travellers arriving directly from Europe, North America, the Middle East or many Asian hubs are often not asked for a yellow fever certificate. Travellers who have recently been in a country with risk of yellow fever transmission — including some African and South American states, and some transit airports — are more likely to be asked for a valid International Certificate of Vaccination.

Certificates usually become valid 10 days after vaccination. If you need the shot, book the clinic before you buy non-refundable mountain permits in your mind: the timeline is medical, not a tour-operator timeline.

What to do

  1. Tell the clinic your full routing, including any overnight or long transit in Africa.
  2. Carry the yellow card with your passport if you were vaccinated.
  3. Check official Tanzania Immigration and WHO lists close to departure; requirements are updated.

This sits alongside malaria advice on health and safety in Tanzania and entry paperwork on Tanzania visa.
